It was in the spring of 1920 that I first learned of Christian Science. I took up the study when my mother decided to turn to God for healing of a chronic trouble. A neighbor, who recognized our distress, lovingly recommanded Christian Science to us. Under Science treatment my mother's health began to improve in a very short time, and my baby sister had an instantaneous healing of bowel disorder, from which she had suffered almost from birth. We have never ceased to be grateful for that beautiful healing.
I loved Christian Science from the very first, and I read its literature eagerly, marveling at Mrs. Eddy's great spiritual insight. Sunday school helped me to solve the many problems that I had to meet while I was attending a university. My study of Christian Science afforded me great help while I was taking the required course in hygiene. I gave the medical laws laid down in that course little credence, and I am grateful to say that they did not take root in my consciousness.
Another beautiful demonstration occurred at that time which greatly strengthened my faith. Through carelessness on my part, a valuable watch, which I had borrowed to use in a class experiment, disappeared. A practitioner was asked to help with this problem, and the watch was returned on the following morning.
