In 1926 the need of physical healing brought me into Christian Science, for which I am indeed grateful, because the study of Mrs. Eddy's works is unfolding to me the truth about God and man's relationship to Him. Before coming into Christian Science I had been active in an orthodox church, and while I had felt confident of God's care and guidance, yet I could not understand how so much unloveliness and discord could prevail everywhere. In the proportion that I understand that God is "of purer eyes than to behold evil," and that these inharmonious conditions are unreal because they are no part of God's gift to man, I now find loveliness, beauty, and harmony expressed in human affairs.
The correct application of the understanding of Truth and Love, as revealed by Mrs. Eddy, has healed me of many physical ailments, such as chronic colds, constipation, intestinal influenza, and ptomaine poisoning. In the fall of 1927, I became ill with what seemed to be a cold, but soon my entire body was badly swollen. Work was taken up by a practitioner, and when resentment and self-righteousness were uncovered, the healing was effected. My fear of the illness had not been entirely healed, however, and in the spring of 1938 there seemed to be a return of the condition. Again the error was uncovered and its nothingness revealed, so that the fear of it was eliminated and the healing completed.
A few years ago I slipped on some waxed linoleum, striking my face against the edges of a radiator. The healing was instantaneous—"the word of God is...sharper than any twoedged sword." More recently I turned my ankle, and the pain was so intense that I asked a practitioner to help me. Treatment was lovingly given, and I was able to rise quickly above the pain. Within a few days I was walking normally, and in the meantime had fulfilled my regular daily duties. Social drinking and cigarette smoking dropped away through the understanding that they are no part of man's activity.
