His Angels

There fought with him at Peniel
A man till dawn, so Jacob said,
Who named him then as Israel,
And left him, safe and comforted.
As Daniel prayed, there stood with him
An angel at each lion's head,
And Love shone through the dungeon dim.

So, always, when a man might stand
In trial or temptation low,
Truth's angel draweth close to hand
To watch with him against the foe;
Love's silent angel waiteth near
To see the end of all his woe,
And smile to see the darkness clear.
