"Who shall roll us away the stone?"

IN his wonderful account of the resurrection morn, Mark tells of three faithful followers of Jesus who, in their tender solicitude for him whom they loved, "had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. And very early in the morning," the account continues, "they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?"

That was nearly two thousand years ago. Today, the same erroneous beliefs would have us think that Truth can be buried in materiality; and wherever there are troubled hearts, the cry arises, now as then, "Who shall roll us away the stone?" And the same unfailing power which opened the sepulcher for Jesus rolls back for us the stone of erring belief, and the angels of His presence turn us to the risen Christ.

In bringing home to oneself today the story so beautifully recounted in the Gospels, the question may be asked, What is the sepulcher facing humanity today, so like the tomb which confronted those followers of Jesus long ago? Some today, as those sorrowing women, may seem to have lost their earthly all. Are there any who have not felt the loss of hopes and fond desires; or, sometimes, have not these hopes and desires been wrongly cherished, until the heart has cried out for surcease from its woes? To one, some change in human affection may seem to have buried all earthly joy; to another, the needed healing seems long delayed; others may lack material comforts, even necessities. How many have, at some time, stood before buried hopes, praying for an angel to roll back the stone! At such a seemingly dark hour Christian Science comes as the answer to prayer.
