Vital Questions

The vital questions which confront us in the Bible and in the writings of Mary Baker Eddy are many and searching. These questions lay bare "the thoughts and intents of the heart." If we try to answer them, humbly and honestly, we shall learn more of our mental condition and character than we have discerned heretofore; and this knowledge will lead to a more rapid growth in the understanding of Christian Science and to greater power in overcoming difficulties.

Mrs. Eddy's questions, as were those of Christ Jesus, were intended to awaken the world from its mesmeric lethargy and to arouse mankind to a more valiant spiritual warfare with the claims of evil or anti-Christ.

Jesus said, because of the lack of spiritual discernment, "O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?" He pointed out the troubles which were to come because of mankind's absorption in materiality, and because of his followers' misunderstanding and misapplication of his teachings. Neglect in applying Christ Jesus' teachings practically deprives one of their essential vitality and helpfulness.
