I should like to bear grateful testimony to a healing of mastoiditis.
Our son, seven years of age, became ill, and complained of earache. Work was begun in Christian Science. The child had been entered as a pupil in a Christian Science Sunday School a few months before, though he seemed unwilling to attend. The difficulty did not yield at once, though the pain was frequently overcome by our reading aloud to him from the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, or through the practitioner's work. After a week an ear specialist was consulted, because there was a difference of opinion in the family concerning treatment for the child. An abscess was lanced by the physician, but the difficulty continued. After some time had elapsed, another specialist was consulted, who went into the case thoroughly and had the child taken to a hospital for X rays and blood tests. He advised an immediate operation for mastoiditis. The child, sensing something of the situation, begged to be taken home, and the attending physician, although he advised against postponing it, arranged for the operation to be performed the following morning.
Before returning to our home, twenty-eight miles distant, I again visited the practitioner who had helped the child in the beginning. All sense of responsibility for the child's well-being left me, and I was able to return home calmly, and prepare for whatever the next day should bring. The practitioner had stated emphatically, "Divine Love is operating right now." With that comforting thought the child was put to bed. He slept peacefully until two o'clock the following morning, when he awakened and asked that he be not taken back to the hospital the following day. I was able to reply confidently that God was caring for him and we could trust Him. He awakened again a few hours later and asked for food, and there was such a perceptible improvement in his condition that the father consented to postpone the operation. There were no more complaints, and the child's recovery was so rapid as to be commented upon by all who knew of the case. In two weeks he returned to school, completely well. The eyes, which had seemed to be seriously affected, were speedily healed.
