In the year 1918 I began to read our textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, hoping to find help for another. I was not looking for any alleviation of my own physical troubles, because they had been pronounced incurable.
After reading the textbook for a few weeks, I came downstairs one morning, and opened the door to enjoy the lovely sunshine. As I gazed on the wondrous beauty of earth and sea and sky, I began to think of the revelation which had come to Mrs. Eddy of the divine nature of God—of God as infinite Mind, filling all space. Then, in one moment of uplifted consciousness, I saw, as a logical fact, that the one Mind, knowing only good, knowing only eternality, could conceive only a perfect creation. "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." I realized that because God made man in His image and likeness, sorrow, sickness, limitation could be no part of my real selfhood, and that I could prove this. Immediately I returned to my room and removed from my knees the bandages without which I had been unable to walk for six years, because of rheumatoid arthritis. I also removed a support which I had worn for twenty-seven years for an internal displacement. From that hour I was completely healed, not only of these troubles, but also of what is known as a nervous affection of the heart.
Through all the years since then, I have kept well, and have experienced the joy of active work in the home.
