A report of three lectures on religious subjects recently appeared in the Malvern Gazette.

Two of the lecturers spoke of Christian Science as a new religion, or strange doctrine. But there is nothing new about Christian Science. It is the same healing religion that was taught and demonstrated by Christ Jesus centuries ago. The Bible is read and studied daily by students of Christian Science, in conjunction with the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Christian Science teaches the perfection of God and man, man made in God's image and likeness, as described in Genesis. Christian Scientists worship God; they know Him to be infinite Love, the One "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;" and they are endeavoring to obey Christ Jesus' commands to heal the sick and save the sinner.

The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science writes in Science and Health (p. 107), "In the year 1866, I discovered the Christ Science or divine laws of Life, Truth, and Love, and named my discovery Christian Science." And on page 110 of the same book she says, "In following these leadings of scientific revelation, the Bible was my only textbook." In her writings, Mrs. Eddy impresses upon her students the necessity to love, revere, and obey Christ, Truth. She says in her Message to The Mother Church for 1902 (pp. 3, 4): "It does not follow that power must mature into oppression; indeed, right is the only real potency; and the only true ambition is to serve God and to help the race." And she adds: "According to Holy Writ, the first lie and leap into perdition began with 'Believe in me.' Competition in commerce, deceit in councils, dishonor in nations, dishonesty in trusts, begin with 'Who shall be greatest?' I again repeat, Follow your Leader, only so far as she follows Christ."
