"They that be with us"

Through all the evening hours he read
Of God and His dear care,
Then laid himself upon his bed
With burden hard to bear.
But in the morning, when he woke,
Great peace had banished fear;
The alien armies fled and broke,
The hosts of God were near.
Ten thousand mighty thoughts had come
To wake him from his woe:
Ten thousand mighty as the sun
Had bade the dark sense go:
And then he heard an inner voice
Commanding him to sing:
Arise, look up, praise God, rejoice,
And honor thus thy King.

Dear Lord, may we lift up our eyes
With steady faith and see!
Dear Lord, may we Elisha-wise
Be firm to stand with Thee!
May we, united by Thy word,
Well know true thought must win
Against the alien, warring horde,
If we but let Truth in.
