Christian Science has brought me so much joy and freedom...
Christian Science has brought me so much joy and freedom from material bondage that it is almost impossible to realize that at one time I was in a state of semi-invalidism from a complication of diseases of fifteen years' standing.
I had always been a Bible student, sincerely endeavoring to understand God, but I had been in a mental turmoil for years because of what seemed to me to be the contradictions in the Bible. I asked many times for explanations, and I was always assured that sometime I would understand—an answer which intimated that after death all would be made clear. This I resented, and it is evident that my disturbed mental state was responsible for continual physical distress and pain.
Some years ago, the physical condition became so aggravated that there was inaction of the liver, stomach, and bowels. Physicians informed me that a major operation would be necessary, but even then promised me only temporary relief. My extremity was God's opportunity, for I turned to Christian Science for help. On my first visit to a practitioner, she talked to me of the nature of God, as taught in Christian Science. She answered many questions patiently by reading to me from the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Among other passages she read this one to me (p. 275): "The starting-point of divine Science is that God, Spirit, is All-in-all." That afternoon I had my first glimpse of God—God who does not know disease. To destroy beliefs which God neither creates nor knows became to me a possibility. I left the practitioner's home conscious of a complete mental change, and the healing, which has been permanent, came very shortly.
