Christian Science came to me through the Christian Science Sentinel
Christian Science came to me through the Christian Science Sentinel. When my stepmother came into our home she brought with her a small library. On rainy days I liked to sit on the floor by the bookcase and look over the books. One day I came across a copy of the Sentinel tucked away behind a row of books and read parts of it. One testimony regarding the healing of a broken bone made a deep impression on me. From that time on, Christian Science slowly unfolded to me. From time to time I read literature which I borrowed from people who were interested in Christian Science. This continued throughout my high school days.
My first year at college was a decided turning point in my religious experience. I stopped going to the church of which I was a member, and in which I had intended to become a minister, and started to attend the Christian Science church in the college town.
During some of my first teaching experiences I was healed of the need for glasses, which I had worn while I was in high school and part of the time in college. One day it came to me that it was not right for me to wear glasses any more, and in one treatment from a Christian Science practitioner I was healed, and have never worn them since. It has been more than ten years since that healing. At another time I was healed of influenza overnight by absent treatment from a Christian Science practitioner.
