The Light of Truth
The light of Truth—spiritual understanding—revolutionizes one's thinking, as it continues to illuminate one's consciousness. Sometimes an influx of this light will come with suddenness, as it came to Saul of Tarsus on the road to Damascus. Again, its rays may penetrate to one's inner thought only after long and prayerful study and contemplation of spiritual truth. In every case, the result of receiving spiritual light into one's thought, through the study of Christian Science, is inevitably a marked change in one's mental outlook, physical condition, and relations with those about him. For, as we learn in Christian Science, healing is a natural and necessary concomitant of such reconstructed thinking.
This revealing light of Truth, the unfolding of the divine law of Life and Love, came to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, after the world had for centuries been groping in the darkness of blind belief, almost wholly without an understanding of the healing power of the Christ-principle, which had brought health and freedom to so many in the early days of the Christian era. Since that revelation came to the exalted consciousness of Mrs. Eddy, and she published it in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the Christian Science textbook, a great change has taken place in the world's thinking, whereby great numbers have been redeemed from sin, sickness, and sorrow.
The dawning of this spiritual understanding may be likened to the turning on of an electric light. Just as the electricity's brilliant rays dispel the darkness of a room, so the light of Truth dissipates the darkness of misunderstanding and ignorance, and reveals the actualities of spiritual being.
