I should like to report a wonderfully quick healing which...

I should like to report a wonderfully quick healing which I was privileged to experience, and for which I am deeply grateful. One morning I suddenly felt violent pains in my side. I at once mentally rejected the pains as unreal, and after about a quarter of an hour they subsided. Then, instead of going on to more spiritual work, I insisted on accompanying my husband as usual to the office. But halfway there I had to turn back, and I dragged myself home. I asked the landlady to call up my husband, so that he could ask a practitioner for help for me. I felt so ill that I had only one wish, to be in bed, for at the slightest movement I had intense pain. In a short time the pain lessened perceptibly, and I experienced great peace. I said to my landlady, "My husband has reached the practitioner." Later in the day, however, I had another severe attack. In the evening my husband again called the practitioner, and asked her to work for me until I could write and tell her that the error had been destroyed. I suffered intensely during two days and one whole night; and all natural functions were upset. I held firmly to the truth, however, that I was not sick, and that the pains were only a belief of mortal mind. On the second night, I slept very restlessly for several hours, but after midnight I suddenly woke up and felt no pain whatsoever. In deep gratitude I remembered the words in one of Mrs. Eddy's beautiful hymns (Poems, p. 75), "Saw ye my Saviour?" I knew that I was healed. In two days I was able to attend to my household duties as usual.

Through this experience I became aware for the first time of the value of daily studying the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. If I had not studied the Christian Science literature so thoroughly, I probably should have been very fearful. When I was healed, I said to my landlady, "You have now another proof of how unreal sickness is." She said, shaking her head, "Yes, this is indeed a miracle." But Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 591) that a miracle is "that which is divinely natural."

I am deeply grateful that I may testify to the beneficent truth of Christian Science.
