Many people whose friendship I prized most highly...
Many people whose friendship I prized most highly became interested in Christian Science over fifty years ago, but I gave little thought to it. Then about thirteen years ago my wife began to attend a Christian Science church. I finally said to her one day, "We have been very happy together for a great many years, and I hope you are not going to allow Christian Science to come between us." She replied, "Christian Science not only will not come between us, but if such a thing is possible, it will draw us closer together," and that is just what it has done.
At that time I had had a running sore on my face for two years or more, to which I had been applying salves without results. My wife asked if she might call a Christian Science practitioner and ask for help for me, to which I consented. After a number of treatments a healing took place which was permanent, but this did not open my eyes to the truth. Shortly afterward I was healed of constipation, and later, of indigestion. About this time I attended a Christian Science church for the first time, and was surprised to see the number of young men and women at the service. They all appeared very happy. On my return home I asked my wife for Science and Health. Up to this time I had read little of the Bible; it seemed very contradictory, and meant little to me. Neither did I know anything of God, except as the creator; His importance and relationship to or connection with my life did not mean a thing to me.
After reading a short while, I realized that I was reading something which was inspired by some power greater than mortals can cognize. From that time on I have continued to read and study all the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. Her explanations of the Bible have opened a new world to me.
