Light in the Prison

Art thou in prison, hopeless, bound,
With doubts beset, by suffering tried,
While past regrets and future fears
Relentless stand on either side?

Lo! Now an angel comes to thee;
Arise up quickly at the call,
No matter what the chains that bind.
Before Love's allness see them fall.

Then Truth's own garment round thee cast —
The recognition of Mind's power
Bestowed by God upon His child,
His perfect likeness, every hour.

Go forth with joyous, carefree song;
Each footstep of the way is planned.
Turn neither to the right nor left,
But closely hold thy Father's hand.

The gates that had seemed closed and barred
Will open wide, for thou art free
To claim the glorious heritage
Prepared by Love, and kept for thee.

Come to thyself — see God's true man—
From proof to proof rejoicing go,
Till, vision cleared and life enriched,
Thou sayest, as Peter, "Now I know!"
