About twenty-nine years ago, my mother decided to try...

About twenty-nine years ago, my mother decided to try Christian Science for one of my sisters, who was considered hopelessly ill with epilepsy. Seeing the help she obtained from Christian Science, I decided to try it for some of my own ills, which were numerous. At that time there were many nights when I was unable to sleep. The practitioner had advised my learning "the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health (p. 468), and the twenty-third, ninety-first, and one hundred and twenty-first Psalms from the Bible, and also advised my repeating them until I fell asleep. I did so, and soon I was healed of sleeplessness.

I was attending high school and having so much difficulty with my studies that I feared I should fail to graduate. Again the practitioner lovingly explained how to apply the truth to my problem, saying that because I was, in reality, God's idea, I reflected divine intelligence and could do whatever was necessary and good. I was able to finish school with no further trouble.

At the birth of our first child, my husband, who was not a Christian Scientist, secured for me the services of the best physician in the city. The doctor said that the child would have to be taken with instruments, but I secured permission to call in a Christian Science practitioner, and at the end of the hour which he gave me, the child was born.
