Reflection

At morning, when the day was new,
And kindling skies proclaimed the dawn,
A shining pageant filled the lawn—
Each grass blade held a drop of dew.

Each crystal dewdrop caught the light,
Nor robbed another of its share,
For each expressed the sun entire,
Complete and perfect to the sight.

E'en as the dew could but express
The light it borrowed from above,
So human hearts, aflame with love,
Reflect the Light that shines to bless.

For Love, impartial, infinite,
Ordains that all by love shall live,
And in divine reflection give
His image clear, inviolate.
