James writes, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." God has given me many gifts, but the greatest of all is the gift of Christian Science, which came to me in a time of great need.

I had been suffering from a nervous breakdown for about two years when a relative visited us. One day, while in her room, I picked up a book. It was a copy of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. Neither the title nor the author's name meant anything to me, for I was not conscious of ever having heard of either. I opened the book and read these words (p. 1): "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." As I finished this sentence, a great change came over me, and that for which I had longed since child hood took place—a clear, sweet realization of God's presence. I was instantly healed of the haunting fear which had made me so miserable. The rest of the healing was slow, but through my reading and application of what I understood, and, later on, with the help of practitioners, the healing was finally complete.

Since that time, many years ago, I have had many beautiful healings and experiences through the application of Christian Science. At one time an automobile which had been stolen was returned unharmed within a few hours. There have been healings of pneumonia, ptomaine poisoning, boils, and of a hand that was injured by a pair of sharp scissors being driven deep into the palm. The last healing occurred in less than three days. These are but a few of the many blessings which have been experienced in our family. Among those for which I am most grateful are church membership, class instruction, and the privilege of having had three wonderful years in the nurses' training course at one of our Christian Science Benevolent Association Sanatoriums, where I learned the true meaning of service, and saw that any work done for God is glorified.
