God's Complete Creation
[Written Especially for Young People]
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE teaches that there is but one creator, God, Spirit, and one creation, which is spiritual and good. It teaches that God, having made man in His own likeness, endows him with all that is good, including health, happiness, intelligence, strength, beauty, activity, life. The perfection which God bestows on man is permanent. In Ecclesiastes we read, "I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor anything taken from it."
The human being, however, needs to gain in spirituality, and to put off more and more of his materiality in order to manifest progressively his true selfhood as the son of God. Spiritual understanding is his greatest need. Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, urged them to "put off . . . the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts," and to "put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness." Since there is, in reality, only spiritual man, the man God made, so-called mortal man must be put off, and the man of God's creating, with all the good which is his by reflection, be put on — be accepted, demonstrated, expressed.
The student of Christian Science learns and progressively proves that God, good, is infinite, All. Since that which is infinite has no opposite, evil, the supposititious opposite of good, has no reality. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 591) Mrs. Eddy defines "mortal mind," in part, as "nothing claiming to be something." Evil may seem very real sometimes, and may claim to manifest itself to the young Christian Scientist in various ways, such as faults of disposition, inferiority complex, self-consciousness, fear of school examinations, or the desire to indulge in smoking and drinking. However, no matter what it calls itself, or how real it may seem to be, we may promptly disclaim it, because it is no part of real being.
