Used of Thee

In my enthusiasm, Lord, to serve
I blundered.
Long I wondered
At the cause, for I was earnest.
Now I see:
All the accent fell on me.

I wanted to be useful;
Sacrifice, that folk might see
All my life and all my goods on the altar offered Thee,
Showing what You meant to me.
So zeal burned.
Then I learned:

You want no trumpeting at all,
Nor groveling answer to Your call;
You want no sacrifice of clay.
If I would worship in Your way,
Profoundly reverence You,
I must be true.

Unequivocating Truth must set the seal
On earnestness, and purest Love on zeal.
You want a simple statement simply told.
Even the righteous, precious "gold

Referred to Mind.

I must be true,
And every hour, every day,
Learning to turn to You and pray,
Simple and honest follow out the line
Of Truth, each new step proven mine—
So live the law of Science that's divine.

For then the accent, Lord, shall be
Not that I'm useful, but I'm used of Thee!
