In a recent issue, in the report of a public meeting of a certain church society, the statement occurs that "Christian Science is neither Christian nor Science." This expression was coined many years ago, but is seldom heard any more. Christian Science does not take away anything from the teachings of Christ Jesus; on the contrary, it recognizes them as he proclaimed and lived them, and it requires that we should follow his example not only in words, but also in our daily doings. Christian Science is founded on an incontestable Principle, the divine Mind, from which it draws the logical conclusion that the opposing material appearance is unreal. Christ Jesus said to his followers, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Those who stick to the teachings of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, studying the book and comparing it step by step with the Bible, will be able to find out that Christian Science does not bear its name inaccurately. Mrs. Eddy tells us (ibid., p. 3), "To understand God is the work of eternity, and demands absolute consecration of thought, energy, and desire."
