From Hawthorne Trust, Limited, which maintains a nursing home in London, England, known as Hawthorne House, has come the information that the cost of reconstructing and equipping the building has been paid and the Trust is completely free from debt. Hawthorne House is one of several Christian Science Houses in England which the Committee on Christian Science Houses, appointed by The Mother Church, has certified are maintained in accordance with the teachings and practice of Christian Science, and are therefore exempt from medical supervision under the Nursing Homes Registration Act. These Houses are temporary resorts for those in need of nursing care and attention while having help in Christian Science, and for those desiring a quiet place for rest and study.
Funds for maintaining Christian Science Houses in England established under Trusts, are derived from fees paid by guests, from subscriptions contributed by the members of the Trusts, and from donations in support of the Trusts. The subscriptions and donations make it possible to keep the fees as low as is consistent with a high standard of comfort and service. These undertakings have been established on a nonprofit-making basis by voluntary organizations of individual Christian Scientists.
Information regarding the Nursing Houses operated by Christian Scientists in England may be obtained from the Committee on Christian Science Houses, in London, which also administers the "Fund for Aiding Christian Scientists to enter Christian Science Houses in England and Wales." This fund is maintained by contributions from Christian Scientists, particularly from those in Great Britain and Ireland. It is available to aid worthy students of Christian Science to enter the Houses when requiring care and attention, but who, without assistance, would be unable to pay the fees which must be charged in order that the Houses may operate in accordance with the high standard which characterizes their service.
