Christian Science found me early in my life, when I was...

Christian Science found me early in my life, when I was carrying many heavy burdens. My home life was very unhappy, and the last straw seemed to have been added when I lost a little son. Life did not seem to be worth living. In this dark hour a woman, whom I had never met before, came and lovingly said, "My dear, God does not punish us, nor take our babies, for God is Love." She spoke a few more words and the misery seemed to melt. I asked her to what church she belonged, for I had never heard anyone talk like this before. I had ceased to pray or even to believe there was a God, and my Bible was packed away. She replied that she was studying Christian Science. Very soon after this she came and told me about Mrs. Eddy and what Christian Science is. I was so happy to know that I had found a loving God and that there was not any such God as I had feared. Need I say that the grief was healed?

I unpacked my Bible and purchased Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I enrolled my two other little boys in a Christian Science Sunday School, and soon began attending church. It is thirty-five years since that time, and I rejoice in some measure of growth. Since then loved ones have passed on, and each time Truth was my staff and comforter. When grief seemed to overwhelm me, I realized it was mortal mind's argument of self-pity. By reversing this suggestion with the understanding that God is Life and the only Mind, filling all space, I have been able to overcome the error.

I have seen the liquor and smoking habits completely destroyed after many years of indulgence. When it became necessary to change my place of residence, I hardly knew which way to turn, the clouds seemed so dark. I knew that Mind is All, so I studied the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, read all I could find on "place" and "home." and kept in thought our Leader's reference in Science and Health (p. 424) to "God's unerring direction." In a short time this mental activity brought to light the way for me to purchase a small home at a price I could afford, and in the location I felt I desired. The entire business transaction was taken care of without worry or anxiety on my part. Again, I had proved that it is God who doeth all things.
