In a recent issue of the Advocate there appeared an article referring to Christian Science. The correspondent claimed that Christian Science is not scientific because it denies the reality of matter.

In the first chapter of Genesis we find the basic statement of the truth of being, "So God created man in his own image." As God is Spirit, it necessarily follows that man must be and is spiritual. The Scriptures also utter the emphatic command, "Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?" And Jesus declared, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing."

The correspondent also claimed that in the healing of sickness Christian Science is limited to those who are suffering from nothing more serious than hallucinations—who only think they are sick, "because they were not sick in the first place."
