Confidence in God
Christian Science inspires great confidence in God. It does this by spiritually enlightening those who study its teachings earnestly and without bias. It tells them the truth about God and His creation; and when they are correctly informed, their confidence in Him becomes steadfast, immovable. The gaining of confidence in God can thus be regarded as a question of destroying one's ignorance concerning real being. As long as one is uncertain, as long as one is misinformed, on the nature of God and His creation—real being—he is bound to lack confidence in Him.
To have confidence in God, then, we must know Him; and Christian Science supplies this knowledge. On page 6 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes: "'God is Love.' More than this we cannot ask, higher we cannot look, farther we cannot go." Here is a profound statement of spiritual truth. John, the beloved disciple of Jesus, declared it long centuries ago. Mrs. Eddy restated it, and emphasized it to bring out its tremendous importance to humanity. Think of it: Can we ask for more? Can we look higher spiritually? Can we contemplate anything grander than the truth that God is Love, infinite Love? It gives us an understanding of God as the perfect creator, the perfect Father-Mother of man. Immediately we gain this understanding we perceive that, as the son of God, man is perfectly protected, and therefore is immortal. This knowledge gives us the steadfast confidence in the Almighty which we desire. And possessed of this confidence we can echo the thought of the Psalmist expressed in the words of the ninety-first Psalm, "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."
Another great truth which Christian Science reveals is that God is Mind. And since man is the idea of God or Mind, man reflects all the qualities of Mind, expresses the perfect intelligence of Mind. This is one of the most precious of spiritual truths to know because of the help it is to mankind. Mortals are constantly struggling with difficulties which tax their intelligence. Let them become acquainted with the truth that God is infinite Mind, the cause of man's intelligence, the source of his wisdom, and that he reflects Mind or divine intelligence to an unlimited degree, and what happens? They then understand that divine wisdom and intelligence are theirs to use at all times and under all circumstances.
