"The claims of God"

The yielding of thought to diverse mental influences, some good, others bad, is a continuous process in human experience—that is, according to the deceptive testimony of material sense. Therefore, Jesus said, "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment." In full accord with his clear precepts, Christian Science teaches that to discern and yield only to the claims of God, good, is to find the way of dominion over evil, the way of righteous thinking and living—the kingdom of heaven within.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy states (p. 23) that "faith, advanced to spiritual understanding, is the evidence gained from Spirit, which rebukes sin of every kind and establishes the claims of God." To cultivate faith, and so rid oneself of doubt, is each one's necessity. This enables one to establish "the claims of God" in his consciousness, to be wholehearted in his recognition that good is the only power, and equally wholehearted in carrying out the active resolve to demonstrate this spiritual fact.

To the student of Christian Science, only the "evidence gained from Spirit" is acceptable; only "the claims of God" are valid. And these claims are always spiritual, always good, always pure, always true, harmonious, and healthful. These divine claims are sustained by the laws of God, which establish harmony and know no discord. As we respond to the demands of God and repudiate the contrary beliefs of mortal mind, our steady progress as Christian Scientists is ensured.
