From early childhood I wondered if I should ever find a practical and demonstrable religion, for I was not able to accept the orthodox teaching of a stern God of love and hate. I attended the Sunday schools of nearly every denomination in an effort to find a satisfactory explanation of God. I had given up hope, however, and I considered the Bible a book of past ages.
One day I noticed in a store window a card announcing a free lecture, which was to be given in a neighboring city, entitled "Christian Science: A Religion of Love." The word "religion" attracted my attention, and the title aroused my curiosity. I went to the lecture, with the result that the seed of Truth was sown in my thought, and I wanted to know more about this religion of love.
I sought a practitioner for further enlightenment, and through his loving help was guided into a fuller understanding of Christian Science as a truly demonstrable religion, a religion of Love in its purest meaning.
