Our beloved Leader writes (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 14): "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well." What hope this remarkable statement brings to the one who has turned to Christian Science after he has failed to receive help from material methods! Prayerfully dwelling upon this statement, and understanding its meaning, destroys fear, discouragement, hopelessness. Belief that disease is obstinate, that it can be termed serious, that healing must be slow, that there must be a convalescent period, disappears as one comprehends this joy-inspiring passage.

If one who has been studying Christian Science for a time has not as yet received healing, he should ponder well this statement. Should such a one turn away from the material body, material self, and "become conscious for a single moment" that there is but one Life, Spirit, and that right now he is in reality dwelling in this Life, his healing will take place.

This was proved in the experience of a student of Christian Science who was about to start on some important work. He had been suffering from a physical difficulty and, though he had tried to realize the truth, still the healing had not been demonstrated. Then through his earnest desire to be free, so that he could do the work it was necessary for him to engage in, he was able to turn away from a material sense of self and realize that he was in reality spiritual, since all that really exists is spiritual. As he glimpsed the glorious fact that "Life and intelligence are purely spiritual," instantly all sense of physical disability vanished.
