Who Walks toward the Hills

Who stands in the dark with a cold wind blowing,
And is conscious of light and the sun's bright glowing,
Who smiles at the comfort his heart is knowing—
That man may speak of faith.
For God sends faith to make men strong,
When the path is steep and the way is long.

Who walks toward the hills with no backward turning,
The glitter of sense and its woes still spurning,
And chooses his path by an inward yearning—
That man will find out Truth.
And Truth will give him a strong, clear light
That guides him at last to the mountain height.

Who turns from pain with a quick rejection,
And sees instead God's clear reflection,
Rejoicing because of man's perfection—
Learns from that man of Love.
For Love that shines on the thought within,
Heals sickness and pain, and casts out sin.
