It is now over forty-two years since I heard of Christian Science. I came to this city a stranger and was made welcome by a stranger, whom I afterwards knew as a Christian Scientist; but for five years I was very much opposed to this religion.
Five different physicians said that my husband could not life for more than two months. The woman mentioned above told me about Christian Science and sent a practitioner to see us. In three days my husband went back to work. The first money he earned paid for a Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. We first had to learn to read English. Little by little we learned the truth, and our five children went to the Christian Science Sunday School. I learned the Ten Commandments; also the fifth, sixth, and seventh chapters of Matthew.
We have had many healings, including those of infantile paralysis, fractured skull, severe burns, typhoid fever, pneumonia, appendicitis, lack, and many other difficulties too numerous to mention. Clinging to the truth as Mrs. Eddy teaches us to do in her writings, we have always come out victorious. I have had the blessing of reading the Sentinel for thirty-six years; later the other periodicals, and enjoy them very much. The Monitor is a daily companion to me. I am very happy that Christian Science not only helps me and mine, but has taught me how to help others in time of need. I am grateful for class instruction, which made many things clear I did not understand; also for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church. I am thankful to God, who led me to this truth so many years ago; to Christ Jesus, our Way-shower; to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who so patiently worked for all mankind; also, to all those who have helped me on my journey upward.
