Communion

[Original article in German]

The simplicity of the communion service in the Christian Science branch churches, free from ceremonial and material symbols, makes the service beautiful and appealing.

Because true communion with God as understood in Christian Science is spiritual, it is reached only through spiritualized thinking, and cannot be expressed through matter. True communion consists in drawing near in thought to God, Spirit.

Mortal mind cannot commune with the Mind that is God. Our thinking must be dematerialized in order that we may become conscious of the presence of God, good. Therefore we must free our consciousness of all that is not good, not pure. Communion brings forth the daily demonstration of our oneness with our heavenly Father, and of our spiritual dominion over the claims of evil.
