"Graces of Spirit"

[Written Especially for Young People]

Wisdom says, as we read in Proverbs, "Behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you." And Mary Baker Eddy, out of her own rich experience, has stated (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 5), "God pours the riches of His love into the understanding and affections, giving us strength according to our day."

One hears so much these days about how to develop personality and charm, how to become popular, and so on. We need, however, to hear much more about the art of acting intelligently, using divine wisdom, being loving and gracious, expressing the "graces of Spirit." Any young student who is being brought up in a Christian Science home, or who is attending a Christian Science Sunday School, learns that these graces or Godlike qualities are manifestations of his true selfhood as God's own pure and perfect idea. So one's aim should be to listen for the voice of divine wisdom, which forever guides thought and activity towards Principle and away from personality.

Grace, poise, and confidence are the natural outcome of right thinking and acting, and they should be sought by all whose purpose it is to be successful in any line of endeavor. As we gain these "graces of Spirit," through Christian Science, there will be no need for us to attend classes to learn how to gain personality or popularity. One who reflects spiritual grace, joy, and intelligence will always be helpful to his fellows under all circumstances, for he will be demonstrating immortal Truth with its unlimited scope, and will therefore be under the protection of divine Principle.
