Tooting Gazette

My attention has been called to a pamphlet, referred to in your issue of June 19, attacking Christian Science and its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy.

Whether it is helpful or desirable for a member of one religious body to spend his time and efforts in denouncing another religious body, is a question which can best be answered by the person concerned. When an attack, however, includes misrepresentation, I feel I can confidently ask your indulgence for space for a reply.

In his attack, as quoted by you, the writer admits that Christian Science has given a new and healthier outlook on life to many people. Then he proceeds to criticize Christian Scientists for the way in which they attain this ideal. According to the Scriptures, a tree is known by its fruits. It therefore follows that a happy and healthy outlook must be the outcome of a satisfactory faith.
