More than twenty years ago Christian Science came to...
More than twenty years ago Christian Science came to me as the dew of heaven, when I was without "hope, and without God in the world." The textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was sent to me by a friend, who saw my suffering and knew that I "had been now a long time in that case." I had investigated different religions without finding any satisfaction, and consequently was very skeptical, especially of one offering physical healing, as I had been a medical and surgical nurse. However, I consented to read the book, and was surprised to find it answered many hitherto unanswered questions, and before I had finished I became convinced it was the truth according to the Scriptures.
The chapter on Prayer particularly impressed me. I continued to read and study in the face of much difficulty and opposition, and in doing so I became hopeful and happy, and began to apply what I could understand. Then I arrived at the point where I saw that it must be all or nothing, so I threw away all material remedies. In a very short time I was healed of a painful internal condition for which I had undergone two operations, and it has never returned.
Then came the joy of teaching my little one, as far as I understood. At that time I knew only one Christian Scientist, a beginner like myself, and there were no services near enough to attend. During the intervening years Christian Science has brought many blessings to me and mine and has been our only physician, our only medicine.
