About seven years ago, during a very difficult period when our family was faced with lack, unemployment, and sickness, Christian Science was presented to me. The demonstration was made whereby my husband secured a good position in another city, and in spite of seeming difficulties the way opened up for us to proceed there with our two children and make a fresh start. I shall always remember the wonderful uplifting I experienced when I made my first demonstration of healing.

At this time I was a very young student with little understanding, but I was full of confidence in the power of the love of God. Our son, aged nine, cut his hand deeply between the thumb and forefinger. The next day he was very sick and feverish and could not raise his arm. The symptoms were all of blood poisoning. Fear of this condition seized me as I stood by his bed and said: "What is it to be? A doctor or Christian Science?" The message came clearly to me, "This is the way, walk ye in it." I turned away and went on with my housework, mentally going over and over the Lord's Prayer. The child fell asleep, and woke at two in the afternoon entirely well, and the hand was normal. In a few days only a faint mark remained.

Not long after this, our little girl, aged five, fell in a rubbish heap and cut her hand from the palm through the thumb muscles, severing them deeply. The bleeding instantly ceased when I repeated "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468). The ugly wound was completely healed in ten days. There was no pain, inflammation, or sign of poisoning during that time, and the child had full activity.
