In Isaiah we read, "And a little child shall lead them."

In Isaiah we read, "And a little child shall lead them." About sixteen years ago I was led to Christian Science by my two children, who were attending the Christian Science Sunday School. I had been suffering many years from a so-called incurable disease, and often I was haunted with the thought of suicide, and would resort to drinking intoxicating liquor to drown my thoughts. Of course this did not help me, but "man's extremity is God's opportunity." One day my daughter said, "Mother, why don't you go to church with us?" I had not been interested in any religion and had not been inside a church for years. I accepted her invitation and went the following Sunday. I shall never forget the three citations which I read on the front walls of the church: "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32); "The work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever" (Isa. 32:17); and, "Christianity is again demonstrating the Life that is Truth, and the Truth that is Life," Mary Baker Eddy (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 97). I felt a sense of peace come over me, for I was sure I had found God. In a few days I purchased a Bible, a copy of Science and Health, and a Christian Science Quarterly, and began to study the Lesson-Sermons. The thought of suicide left me, and I became less fearful after my first visit to the Sunday service. The Apostle John says, "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear." Such habits of thought as worry, resentment, stubbornness, self-will, and self-pity gave way to more love for others. I was healed in a few months.

I should like to tell of a few instantaneous healings. My daughter complained of severe pains in her side, and said that it hurt her to breathe, and that even the bed covers seemed to hurt her. I told her that as God's perfect child she lived, moved, and had her being in Him. I read to her from the Bible, then these words from Science and Health (p. 393): "Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God's government. Have no fear that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind, when it is self-evident that matter can have no pain nor inflammation." In a few moments she fell asleep and slept the night through. This healing took place eight years ago.

One evening this same daughter was invited to a neighbor's for dinner. The next morning she said her throat was very sore, and it hurt her to drink a glass of water. I held to the truth, as we are taught in Christian Science, and by evening she was able to eat her dinner. All sense of error had disappeared. A few days after this we were told that three children in the house where she had spent the evening were quarantined for diphtheria.
