For about fifteen years I was held in bondage with suffering, nausea, and limitation from weak eyes. I had treatments from several of the finest eye specialists in New York and Los Angeles, without improvement. One day, while I was in the garden talking to a neighbor who was a student of Christian Science, I told her of my problem, saying, "I have tried everything material; I think I will try Christian Science." She directed me to a Reading Room, where I borrowed "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I opened the book, removing my glasses with the thought, If I am to rely on God's power to heal, I shall not need them. At first everything was a misty blur. After a few days I found that I could read for a short time. I kept on studying, and within a week I was able to read freely. That was about nine years ago, and ever since then I have enjoyed normal vision.
Since that time I have not resorted to medical remedies of any kind. Christian Science has met my every need. It has lifted me out of a cramped existence to a life of freedom and health. Selfishness, willfulness, criticism, have been supplanted, in a degree, with kindness, gentleness, love for my fellow men, and a sincere desire to know more about God.
I was healed of grief at the passing on of my husband, whom I loved very dearly. It is true that God will fill that great vacuum of emptiness; if we will but turn to Him, He will not give us a stone. When error would taunt me with the thought of separation, I would courageously reverse this testimony by knowing that, in reality, my husband had not gone anywhere, for life is spiritual and eternal. I found that I could show my love for him by joyously knowing that he was about his Father's business.
