"My mouth shall shew forth thy praise"
Humble, honest hearts acknowledge that God must open the lips if true praise is to come forth. Humble hearts are receptive, ready to receive God's gifts, and are filled with desire to praise Him, to know that He is good and gives good gifts to His children.
God gives wisdom to seek Him, purity to see Him, spiritual discernment to know Him, alertness, spiritual understanding, and power to obey His commandments. With obedience to His Word comes a deep desire to praise Him for all His goodness. All down the ages God's witnesses have told others of the necessity to seek Him reverently and to obey His commandments.
In the Psalms we find hymns of praise to God, expressing thanksgiving for protection and care, and the joy of the overflowing heart that has felt His holy presence. The hearts of Christian Scientists are filled with gratitude also to the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, whose inspired teachings have enabled them to understand, as they never did before, the words of the Bible. In "Miscellaneous Writings" she has written (p. 107), "As we rise above the seeming mists of sense, we behold more clearly that all the heart's homage belongs to God." The deep longing in our hearts to praise God is also a gift from Him, for does not He enable us to reflect wisdom, intelligence, activity, patience, brotherly love, and kindness?
