Christian Science was first brought to my attention about...
Christian Science was first brought to my attention about thirty-five years ago, and later as a reader of The Christian Science Monitor I discovered what I had long sought—the path to Truth.
While traveling abroad, I was called upon to devote a part of my time after office hours to the teaching of the English language in Berlin, Germany. At the conclusion of each lesson, in order to encourage the students in their use of the language, I would ask a few questions in order to bring about a general discussion. One question I well remember was, "How do you spend your Sundays?" The student answered, "I attend the Christian Science church." I was glad thus to learn of the Christian Science services on Sundays and Wednesday evenings. The student and I began reading together the weekly Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly. It was this friend who purchased for me the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and this textbook proved very benefical to me and helped me over some very trying conditions.
It was as if I had heard the "still small voice" bringing into my experience a fuller sense of harmony and peace. I was eager to know more about the Christ, Truth, and so with increased endeavor I applied myself to an earnest study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, and have many times since proved the words of the Psalmist, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." My progress was slow, yet, overjoyed at the wonderful treasure I had found, I held to the Tenets given by Mrs. Eddy on page 497 of the textbook, occasionally availing myself of the help of a loving practitioner, and one by one various erroneous conditions were eradicated.
