My Prayer

If I should have some human heart's desire,
Which even needful, then, may seem to be,
O let me pray with steadfast thought entire:
Prepare Thou me for what Thou hast prepared for me!

O help me know that mortal man's design
Is not the plan of immortality;
Make me desire Thy will alone, not mine;
Prepare Thou me for what Thou hast prepared for me.

And when I look and see Love's guiding way,
And fear I have no strength to follow Thee,
What peace is mine, if I can stand and say,
Prepare Thou me for what Thou hast prepared for me!

Then, when the parting of two ways comes nigh,
And in Thy gentle strength Thou leadest me,
O, I can know that in Thy wisdom high
I am prepared for what Thou hast prepared for me!
