Signs of the Times

Topic: Easter

[Bishop James Chamberlain Baker, in the Star-News, Pasadena, California]

The Easter victory is not mere extension of existence in time. It means the enrichment of the quality of life. Dr. Grenfell is truly Christian when he says, "I love life, and believe in it—only it must be life, not mere existence." The risen Christ kindles the passion for life that is real and releases in amazing ways capacity, courage, and purpose.

Easter not only solaces the ache of the human heart. It purifies life and sets it free—men can press on and dare toward a new and righteous world. The "soul of public-mindedness" is made sure through the immortal hope.
