My husband and I came into Christian Science when a very kind physician told us frankly that he was only running up our bill by calling at the home. A specialist had been called in for consultation, and the verdict was that all had been done that could be done for my husband; but before the doctor left I insisted that there must be something in the world that could help, and he asked if I had ever heard of Christian Science. He said he could not promise that it would heal our case, but we could investigate it if we wished.

As I have become a student myself there are two points I have appreciated more, namely, the loving wisdom of the one who did not send us directly to anyone, but let God do the directing, and the understanding heart of the practitioner, who, when I went to her office to ask what Christian Science was and what she did when she gave a treatment, told me as simply as possible. For the simple way in which those two dear people showed us how to study and apply the truth, and to reason things out right the start, we are more grateful even than for our physical healings.

In a very short time I realized that I needed an understanding of God, of His ideas, His law, His qualities, more than any physical healing, and that I did not really know man as God had made him, and creation as God had made it—spiritual, perfect, and indestructible. So I learned that Christian Science is not something to be used in emergencies, as formerly we used medicine or called a physician, but is an absolute Science, teaching us the true facts about ourselves and all the world.
