Diss Parish Magazine

In the Diss Parish Magazine for June reference is made to Christian Science as one of the "new ways, invented by men or women," inferring that it is of human invention and is a bypath misleading the present day from the true Way in Christ. May I offer the following quotations (three from many similar) from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, in refutation of the above-quoted viewpoint.

"The Christian Scientist wisely shapes his course, and is honest and consistent in following the leadings of divine Mind. He must prove, through living as well as healing and teaching, that Christ's way is the only one by which mortals are radically saved from sin and sickness" (p. 458). "There is but one way to heaven, harmony, and Christ in divine Science shows us this way" (p. 242). "Universal Love is the divine way in Christian Science" (p. 266).

In describing her experience, Mrs. Eddy says (p. 107), "In the year 1866, I discovered the Christ Science or divine laws of Life, Truth, and Love, and named my discovery Christian Science," adding (p. 110): "The Bible was my only textbook. The Scriptures were illumined; reason and revelation were reconciled, and afterwards the truth of Christian Science was demonstrated. No human pen nor tongue taught me the Science contained in this book, Science and Health; and neither tongue nor pen can overthrow it."
