Christian Scientists never manipulate the human body

Commomwealth

Christian Scientists never manipulate the human body. They do not examine it or diagnose its ills, nor attempt to add to or subtract from it one iota of its so-called chemical ingredients, nor treat it in any physical way. Their work is confined wholly to spiritualization of thought, to mental renewal on the basis of understanding the presence, power, and perfection of God and His man.

Preparation for the healing work of a Christian Scientist requires consecration to God, a wholehearted devotion to the divine Father-Mother, and to the spiritual rules of Christian healing as gleaned from the Bible and systematically and exactly set forth in the Christian Science textbook for instruction, study, and application.

Manifestly, it would not improve the quality and effectiveness of prayer to require that he who prays shall pass an examination under a "basic science bill," nor would it decrease the power of spiritual consecration if one so consecrated should fail to pass such an examination. This fact is so patent that wherever there are regulations governing the qualifications of those who practice the so-called healing art by manipulating the human body, exemptions are quite properly and necessarily given to those who treat by prayer in the practice of their religion. This is vividly illustrated in the Medical Practice Act of this state, wherein an exemption, which has been construed by the United States Supreme Court to apply validly and legally to Christian Scientists, is included.
