Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication

Wyoming.

Throughout the past year, in no instance has there appeared in the press of Wyoming a misleading statement or an attack on either Christian Science or Mrs. Eddy. The press has also shown its friendliness in republishing one hundred and four articles and poems, with due credit given to The Christian Science Monitor. Of this number, ninety-seven were published in the Laramie Press.

Clippins, excerpts of the Lesson-Sermons, from thirty-five newspapers throughout the state were sent in by Assistant Committees on Publication. This is an increase of four newspapers over last year. These thirty-five papers quite thoroughly cover the population of Wyoming, and as evidence that these excerpts are read a letter from a man living in Illinois reached this office. His letter was addressed to a newspaper editor of Wyoming, who had turned it over to a Christian Science Society. In the letter he had taken exception to some statement in our Lesson-Sermon excerpt, and said: "I am deeply interested. I pray I may hear more from this." This letter was turned over to the Committee on Publication for Illinois, who in turn directed our friend to the nearest Christian Science Reading Room for literature. All publications of excerpts of the Lesson-Sermons are accepted by editors without charge, and many of them are published where there is no branch of The Mother Church.

We have one station in Wyoming, KWYO, Sheridan, that is broadcasting "The Monitor Views the News." These newscasts were accepted the year before last and have been used regularly ever since. Radio activity shows a satisfactory increase over last year, ninety-two Christian Science programs having been radiocast in the past twelve months. Fifty-two of these were over Station KWYO, Sheridan, and forty over Station KDFN, Casper. Among several written testimonies that have been received this year, the following furnishes proof of the healing that is going forth with these programs. A lady stated that she was just at the point of ending it all, for it did not seem possible for her to go on as things were in her home. She happened to hear our Tuesday morning program and then listened to all subsequent ones that week, with the result that she decided to investigate Christian Science. She got in touch with a student of Christian Science, with the result that she subscribed to the Sentinel and procured a copy of Science and Health, which she diligently read. Being receptive to the truth, she could later say that her home situation had righted itself.

Washington.

It would be difficult to estimate the great service our international daily newspaper is rendering the Cause of Christian Science in this state. Public officials, educators, labor leaders, professional and business men are unstinting in their praise of the high standard of journalism found in the Monitor. One prominent public official, who is not a Christian Scientist, on being censured by a friend who saw him reading the Monitor, asked his friend if he knew what was in the Monitor. He replied that he did not, and, furthermore, was not interested; whereupon the official said to him, "My friend, you are allowing prejudice to deprive you of the greatest enjoyment you have ever known in reading a newspaper." An hour later the critic was seen earnestly reading the copy of the Monitor given to him by his friend, and it is interesting to add, he is now a regular and enthusiastic subscriber to our daily newspaper.
