Decisions

Every day there are decisions to be made, steps to be taken, opinions to be given. New theories arise; new ideas are presented. We are for, or against. We make ourselves partners or opponents of this or that person, policy, or plan.

"Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision," cried the prophet Joel, and his prophecy sounds somewhat like a lamentation. But Christ Jesus, whose decisions have helped to guide the world aright for almost two thousand years, lamented not. He was serenely sure in his judgments. Said he: "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me."

In the light thrown upon the Scriptures by Christian Science many are learning that those who would do the Father's will cannot fail in judgment if they understandingly follow the perfect example of Christ Jesus, rightly called the Way-shower. First, he declared that he could of himself do nothing. He admitted no selfhood apart from God, thus acknowledging God as the only cause and creator—the one Mind. Christian Science, in perfect harmony with the Master's teachings, likewise causes its adherents to cast aside vain belief in egotistical thinking, in empirical knowledge, or in fixed human opinions, and in all humility to recognize God as the only presence and power, the one intelligence of the universe.
