The Anointed

In gentle firmness she unflinching stood
When God's voice called her to a godly work—
Then moved in poised meekness, did not shirk
The task that Love had given, but stilled the brood
Of evils in the encircling gloom with prayer
And labor in an upper room. She heard
The sacred call, and took from God's own Word
The key to Jesus' Christly way; did dare
Uplift and heal, then opened wide the door
That human myth had closed, and held on high
The sword of Truth, as Jesus did before.
The Christlike thought has rolled the stone away—
The flaming sword a beacon light shall be,
Till all mankind has seen eternal day.
