Kindly grant me space to reply to a letter signed by "C.L.A.," in which the writer attempts to belittle the work of a noble woman.

After the Science of Christ was presented to the world, the identical arguments used by this critic were employed to overthrow it; but because Mrs. Eddy understood the omnipotence and omnipresence of God, good, the efforts of evil were rendered powerless; and the Christian Science movement has progressed and prospered. The same motives which instigated the persecutors of Jesus to claim that he was a "wine-bibber, a friend of publicans and sinners," are responsible for the disparaging statements made about Mrs. Eddy. No one interested in humanity's liberation from degradation, sin, misery, and disease is opposed to Christian Science.

There have been numerous instances of the overcoming of dishonesty, deception, and hypocrisy through the study and application of Christian Science as set forth in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Had the ideas in that book been purloined from others, as this critic insinuates, such results could never have been attained. It is absolutely impossible for one practicing dishonesty to inculcate honesty in others, just as it is impossible for one to inspire thoughts of chivalry, courtesy, and justice in others, while he himself practices their opposites.
