Christian Science was presented to me by a beloved employer...
Christian Science was presented to me by a beloved employer at a time when I was very ill and had given up hope of recovery. The medical diagnosis revealed the following difficulties: a diseased pancreatic condition, a perpetually overactive or inactive liver, a trouble in the small intestine, a severe and continuous gastric spasm, an irregular action of the heart, a sinus trouble, which grew worse in spite of the earnest efforts of several specialists, a growth in the right lung and a smaller one in the left lung—two ribs midway on the right side had been pushed somewhat out of place by the thickening in that lung—advanced anemia, a tendency to sinus and pleurisy attacks upon the slightest change of weather, and insomnia. Several of these ailments were considered incurable.
Many physicians failed to help me, but a loving practitioner of Christian Science succeeded in doing so, for under her wise care I found myself free. I realized that I was, and always have been, God's child, and one by one my troubles disappeared. Now when suggestions come to me, I am learning to examine them in the light of Truth, and to reject that which would deceive and limit me.
I am grateful for Christian Science as a saving as well as a healing religion. I had become dissatisfied with and discouraged by other orthodox religions, for I could get from them no practical information about God. I wanted to "draw nigh to God" that He might draw nigh to me. Philosophy, psychology, astrophysics, and kindred subjects I found devoid of definite facts about Truth. Christian Science, however, gave me usable information about God. It opened the Bible for me as a guidebook of life. I find in the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly a course of daily study about the real universe and man. I am learning that the Lesson-Sermon subjects cover the whole gamut of human experience.
