Sincere gratitude impels me to relate a healing through...
Sincere gratitude impels me to relate a healing through Christian Science. Some time ago the teacher of my youngest daughter came to tell me that half an hour previously the child had been taken to the hospital with a complicated fracture of the arm. Before I went there, I asked a practitioner for treatment, and then went to the child. She was in bed with the arm in splints. Immediately we both declared the truth, namely, that a child of God is always unhurt. The physician tried to explain to me that the healing would take a very slow course and that there might be a possibility of the arm's remaining stiff in spite of massage, since it was broken directly under the joint. I did not accept any of this in consciousness, but saw my little girl as really existing only in Truth and Love. They had predicted to me a hospital stay of six weeks; but I did not limit myself in the matter of time.
The child had to stay in bed for almost four weeks, although she was well and happy. When I visited her one afternoon toward the end of the fourth week, she was up and helping the nurse to wait on the other children. I asked the hospital physician to let me take the child home, but he said that she must stay two weeks more. I talked with the practitioner and worked about it myself. The next morning I felt sure that I should get my child that very day; indeed, that nothing could prevent my doing so. Where can the perfection of a child of God be better manifested than in a Christian Science home? I called the nurse and told her that I should come for my little daughter at four o'clock, and that I should take her home, on my own responsibility, of course. My request was immediately granted. They wanted me to let them know what physician was to continue treating the child, in order that the history of the case could be given him; but I did not commit myself at all, convinced that divine Love alone was guiding us. At the time of her release, the joint was almost immovable, but after eight weeks' treatment in Christian Science the arm was as perfect as before, and this, without a single massage, a thing which seemed quite impossible according to human belief. About three weeks after her return from the hospital the child was doing gymnastics and swimming.
I should like to give thanks with all my heart that my children and I were led to Christian Science, and I am grateful to those who took the first steps with me and to the practitioner for his great and loving work. Finally, I should like to express gratitude for my membership in The Mother Church and for the Sunday school which my children are so glad to attend.
